The Hook mixtape is compiled through a series of music related questions. Each artist who fills it out can answer as many or as few of the questions as they wish, and elaborate on their choices, or let them speak for themselves.

Press Clippings
“Murky, hip-hop leaning beats aligned to songwriting that melts together folk and rock textures, the Austin duo hit on an addictive formula right at the first writing session.” - Clash
The last piece of music you paid for (streaming doesn’t count)
Michael Kiwanuka - Kiwanuka
Your favourite place to listen to music
In the car on a long drive, sonically not ideal but the combination of the road and music is good for the soul.

A song which reminds you of your childhood
Rocket Queen - Guns and Roses

Your go-to karaoke song
Don’t think I could ever muster up the courage to do karaoke but if I did - George Michael’s Careless Whisper.

A song which could change the world if everyone heard it
George Harrison - Give Me Love (Give me Peace on Earth)

A song you’d rather never hear again
Some song my kids have played by The Backpack Kid, not even worth looking up the title.

A song which gets you in the mood (for dancing)
Los Tigres Del Norte - Pacas de a Kilo

A song which gets you in the mood (for romancing)
“Feel Like Makin Love” - D’Angelo version or Roberta Flack original.
The soundtrack to your last holiday
“A Day in The Life” by The Beatles, my daughter is learning to sing and play it on piano and played it non-stop which still brings a smile to my face. :)

A song which makes you cry
Roberta Flack - “Hey That’s No Way to Say Goodbye”. Happens every time. Runner up: Oliver Nelson - “Stolen Moments”. Also happens every time.

A song which makes you laugh
Ghostface Killah sketches.

A song which gives you goosebumps
Cold Little Heart - Michael Kiwanuka

A song which makes you feel empowered
Most Jay-Z from Blueprint/Black Album era.

An artist you regret never having seen live
Willie Nelson - I've seen a couple of songs, but never a full show and can’t believe I live in Austin and have never seen a concert.

An artist you hope to see live soon
Also Willie Nelson

A gig you’ll never forget
Playing with Prince at his Golden Globes Afterparty 13 or so years ago. One day’s notice and no rehearsal, playing guitar all night right next to the man himself in front of a room of nothing but A list celebrity friends of his.

An album you know by heart
Dead Milkmen - Big Lizard in my Backyard. My older cousin turned me on to it when I was a kid and I know it backwards and forwards.

A cover which is better than the original
I don’t know if I would necessarily say better but different enough to be close - Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings’ cover of Shuggie Otis’ Inspiration Information.

A song you first heard on a film soundtrack
Tame Impala - Sundown Syndrome. Shazam’d it from a movie and googled them to find out they were playing Austin on their first tour a couple of nights later so I went to the show and became an instant fan.

A song you love in a foreign language
Esclavo Y Amo - Los Pasteles Verdes version. I cry in Spanish.

An instrumental song you love
Link Wray - Rumble

A recent musical discovery
Hadn’t really checked out Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city, just missed it when it came out and Eric turned me on to it and I love it.
