73+ music related things to
enjoy during lockdown
by Team Hook
For our listings of livestream gigs, festivals and events go to Lockdown Listings.
The music industry, like so many others, has already been deeply affected by Covid-19. For the musicians who rely on touring to make an income, the cancellation of gigs and festivals has left them financially unstable, as it has the venues, staff and organisations who facilitate these events. Music publications who rely largely on festivals and tours for advertising revenue are equally at risk, as are the freelancers they employ. It's a frightening time to work in music, and yet for the millions of people currently in some form of isolation, music will be a powerful tool in fighting feelings of loneliness, fear and loss. When we made Hook, our mission statement was to explore how music is made, how it is consumed, and what it does to us emotionally, socially and physically. This situation will have an impact on all of those things, and we will be publishing pieces which respond to that in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, we wanted to celebrate our favourite online music content to help you while away the hours. Please send any recommendations you have to us [hello@hookjournal.com] so we can keep expanding this list. Most things here are free to enjoy - but if you do have some extra gig money saved up there are lots of ways you can support your favourite independent musicians and organisations. Donate, subscribe, become a patron, buy merch, buy records - every little helps.
